As time passes in life, there are good times and bad times, highs and lows. I have been a member of NBX since I don't remember when (almost a year I know that) and have been in the top five entering the final day of a $10,000 tournament (thanks for nothing Chicago) and have been the very first person out of another---see the NCAA Tournament. I started the Play of the Day contest as a way to keep things interesting and fun for not myself, but for all of you in NBX.
Well, the time has come for me to step down from the POD, hand it over to someone who has more time to run it than I do (and if no one wants to try to fill my enormous shoes, end it completely). I am sorry that I can no longer fulfill my POD duties, but life changes and time becomes more valuable in other places (going back to college, work, baby on the way---a girl I might add---in December...just to name a few). So thanks for all you have done to make this what it is, for making me smile in times I needed it and for making this one of the most fun sites I have ever been on (and continue to be on).
So if you would like to be the one to take over this --- let me know via email. Tell me why you want it and the like. State your case, make me want to hand it over to you. Not just anyone can get it, so it is more than merely saying you want it. There are some of you that I know would do very well at it if you want it, so come one come all, and may the best man (or woman) take the lead and take over the Play of the Day contest.
IT has been a very busy few days for Umpiregod...work (shorthanded), family (found out having a girl in December...thank god, I already have three boys) and the like can take it's toll and it's time.
Winners from the last two PODS will have to come tomorrow.
Game for Wednesday is the Minnesota Twins at the Toronto Blue Jays. My Twins have been stinking it up as of late, maybe they can win one tonight?
Man what a long night----but here are the last two winners and the next two POD's by Umpiregod.
Wednesday was close with a 3-2 Tigers win over Minnesota, but jp5765 took it with a 4-2 prediction, edging yanksguyX2 (5-2) and marty12 (5-3).
Thursday saw the Brewers beat the DBacks 10-1, giving the points to califnik, who had it 9-3. Nice tries by resevoirdog (9-5) and donamg (9-6) but as we know here, if you don't win, you are still a loser.
Friday will be the ChiSox/BoSox game, while Saturday will see Houston take on Pittsburgh.
And remember, if you have a gambling problem, you are not alone. That is why your bookie loves you!
We have four winners to announce today and 2 more games for Umpiregod's Play of the Day. The mighty living legend Umpiregod has been busiere at the office more than usual, as one of his coworkers, and one of NBX's own in birdng, left and made more work come onto umpie, so when you see bird, wish him well on his new job endevours.
As for the four winners: Saturday was donamg with her 5-3 Florida win prediction (The Marlins won 5-2). Sunday saw dream1er win with an 8-3 St. Louis prediction which they won 10-2. Monday was yanksguyX2, picking a 7-3 score in a 10-3 Dodger win (had a 7-5 and a 7-4 prediciton as well, close but SORRY) and Tuesday was purplepeopleeater with a 4-3 Rangers prediction, as the Rangers won 11-4 and most everyone picked the A's to win.
For Wednesday and Thursday, we have the following: Wednesday will be Santana for the Twins taking on the Tigers, while Thursday has the NL come up with Arizona meeting Milwaukee.
Good luck and if you have a betting problem, tell your bookie to quit answering your phone calls!
Here are the games for Mon and Tues for Umpiregod's Play of the Day (hey work is busy and will have to get the winners of Sat and Sun announced this afternoon---some of us have to work during the day you know...LOL)
Monday will be the Phillies vs the Dodgers, while Tuesday is Texas vs Oakland....Have fun and good luck, and remember if you have a gambling problem, you are not alone, just remember to stay on NBX and avoid your local bookie!
Quick one, just cause it is busy here...
Thursday winner, dennis patterson (bro, you did not give me your name) won with his 3-1 Mariners win prediction (they won 3-2)
Friday we had bstrds win it wiht a 7-5 Reds prediction while they won 8-4. Why dona or JON did not win this one is beyond me...lol you two.
For Saturday we will have Washington taking on Florida, while Sunday is the customary ESPN game, whit the Cards facing the Phillies.
Good luck!
I thought I would go crazy with no bets to be able to make this past few days, but BASEBALL IS BACK--along with Umpiregod's Play of the Day.
As for the previous winners: Saturday, dennishocka won with his 4-1 Orioles prediction (they won 3-0) and Sunday dream1er hit the trifecta with his 5-4 correct prediction of the 5-4 Braves win.
As for the All Star Game--- NO WINNERS!!! All that were sent in had the National League winning.
Thursday night we will take in the Tigers at the Mariners, while Friday the National League has its day with the Reds facing the Mets.
Good luck to all!!!!
As most of you know, I umpire amatuer baseball here in Minnesota, and have not had an ejection yet this season. But last night came close...Redwood Falls was playing in Springfield (the Springfield that made national news by not wanting to be part of the contest to be the Springfield of the Simpsons)...4-3 Redwood bottom of the eigth, runners on first and third with one out. I am on bases, with a partner behind the dish who isone of the worst umps you will ever find ANYWHERE. Pitcher fakes the throw to first---BALK!!!!---tieing run scores. Redwood manager runs onto the field and begins to go off about how he can do that and he wants to see the Rule Book and the like. I tell him that is one of the most basic balks there is and that I will be more than happy to go and grab my book in my van and show him. At the end of the inning he calls me over and states he wants to file a protest for rules interpretation violation, which I state he can't, because he did not argue a rules interpretaion at the time, and also, he cannot file a protest two outs later, he has to before the next pitch, which sends him over the top. Lucky for him, two players step in and take him to the dugout before I can give him the old heave ho, DAMN IT ANYWAY!!!!
As far as the play of the day goes, we had two winners on Thursday and one on Friday. Thursday we had both barbara66 and bstrds hit it perfectly with 6-2 Mets win predictions, while Friday had walton13 hit the perfect prediciton of a 6-5 Devil Ray win.
For the next two games before the All Star break (and can you believe the first time I can recall since I have been on NBX where there are NO games to bet on!!!) we will have Baltimore at Texas on Saturday and the ESPN Game of the Week Sunday which is Atlanta vs San Diego.
Here are last week's winners for Wed and Thurs first off---
Wed: gjecat and extreme469. Thurs: walton13, knucklesandwich, extreme469 and gjecat.
For this last Tues: scottyxWINx and knucklesandwich each had it 6-4 Indians (it was 5-4 Cleveland).
For last night $th of July game: kennyd, bstrds and cptgravity all tied with perfect guesses of 8-3 phillies.
For Thursday game (tonight) it is Mets at the Astros, while Friday will be Tampa Bay at Kansas City.
Thanks for your patience.
Winners from Sunday and Monday in Umpiregod's Play of the Day Contest:
Sunday---barbara66 with her 5-1 Tiger prediction (it was 1-0).
Monday---scottyxWINx with his 5-2 Royals prediction (they won 3-2).
Tuesday's game will be the Indians at the Tigers, with Wednesday being the Phillies at the Astros.
As for last week's wed and thursday winners, may of you keep asking who won, i have the winners, but they are written down at my office---so they won't be posted til Thursday. Sorry for the inconvience, but that is life---one BIG inconvience! LOL

Welcome to the PLAY OF THE DAY
The Play Of The Day is run by NBX player and Wiseguy commish422. Every day you have a chance to name the winner of a designated game and get closest to the points total. Do that, and you can win an extra 10,000 pts. Good luck!
Play-of-the-Day Rules
1. You must pick the winner correctly to be in the running for the 10,000 points. Pick the winner wrong and you are automatically out for that game.
2. Out of those that correctly picked the winner, the one who guessed the winning teams score closest to the real point total they had, whether it be over or under that total, is the winner.
3. If two or more people tie for the winning teams score total, it goes to the losing teams total score, with the same rules in effect.
4. If two or more people are still tied after going through the winning and losing teams individual score totals, the final tiebreaker is the total points scored. Closest to this total is the winner. If there is still a tie, we have a tie for the contest and mulitple winners.
5. There is to be NO WHINING about this contest. If you don't like the way that it is being run, you don't have to enter it. This is a contest that was started to be fun and give everyone a chance to get some extra points, so let's have it be that way.
6. The judge cannot be entered in the contest, nor does he care who wins or loses. There will be NO favoritism shown by him in this contest.
7. Do NOT ask the judge how many people have the game as the over or the under or how many people have taken one team or the other. All of these questions will be ignored. This contest is not to be used to help someone ascertain how to bet on a particular game.
8. Once you make your pick and send it in, don't even think of changing it. A bet layed is a bet played.
