Well NBXers, the Commish is back for December to offer you free stuff, at least points for you to squander foolishly. As to my headline, as most of you know, or not whatever the case Commish is a born and raised Cornhusker. Gotta admit I have not been much of a fan in the last 5 years, as I could not believe that Steve Pederson hired a reject Raiders coach. Well junkies, there is paybacks in the real world, as both are HISTORY!. If the rumor mill in this state is true, Bo Peleni will leave LSU to take over the Husker program. I may become a fan yet, as in my humble mind he should have never been let go.
...
Speaking about coaches, Laker Fan speak up. Why the Fawk (thanks Diego) would ANY team pay a coach 12 Million bones? Is bopping the owners daughter a fringe benny? Is LA so out of step with the sporting world? Do they believe that fans and cable want to see an old man on the sidelines...or do they watch the players? I do not get it, but I have never make more than 50k a year in my life.
...
mrtruths last POD for November was Freso ST and New Mexico St. In a rainy, cold game final score was 30-23, Fresno. Comming closest with a score of 31-17 was NBXer lostmind. Way to go!
...
Saturday I am getting back to offering you dickweeds 2 ways to fatten your Classic account. Being the first day of a new month...what a way to get a jump.
First match-up will be in NCAAFB with Tennesse taking on the LSU Tiggers for the SEC Championship....Could the coaching issue at LSU factor??? You tell me!
...
Second will also be a League Championshio game, going to the Big 12 and The OK Sooners taking on
upstart Missouri. Junkies I have only BAD Memories of San Antonio, but that was USAF boot camp.
...
Place to mail your guesses is as always pod@nbx.com. NO Postage needed, just keep game time in mind.
...
Many ideas for the Holiday month, so make sure you check in daily...If you dont play, you lose out!
Commish
Happy 80th birthday today to Vin Scully. He began his career with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950. When my beloved Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in 1958, Scully moved with them. 8 seasons in Brooklyn, 50 seasons in L.A., 58 seasons and counting. Wow. Scully's longevity is remarkable, but even more remarkable is his unique style. It transcends just sportscasting. It is artistic broadcasting at its best. You don't have to be a sports fan to appreciate him.

Many of you people doubted Louisville on Thursday night, and that's all fine and dandy. If you did, then I hope you lost a ton of points on Rutgers. But then again, I cannot really blame you too much. I have lost nearly 500,000 NBX classic points in the past two months just by betting on Louisville. And that's no exaggeration. But I actually saw some of last year's formations and plays out there on the field tonight. It started about seven or eight plays before halftime and continued much of the second half. And the same thing on defense. I actually saw corners in press coverage for the first time all season and saw linemen hitting the gaps like they were taught in the past. Brian Brohm made more calls at the line that any game I remember. Another difference is we actually stuck with the running game, instead of just trying it. I think the players took much of this on themselves.
...
Thursday's Play of the Day was the Packers @ Cowboys. Your POD winner is mdriskell, who picked Dallas 38-24. Of course, the final score was Cowboys 37, Packers 27. And tonight we saw Aaron Charles Rodgers, who is earmarked to become Brett Favre's eventual successor. Will next week against my lowly Raiders be his chance to start? Or will Favre rebound like nothing ever happened?
...
Friday, November 30th's Play of the Day is Fresno State @ New Mexico State. Friday night means West Coast football. It's been a real joy, as it always is, to host the Play of the Day this month. Wow, where did November go? They say time really flies when you get older. My buddy, commish422, will be back tomorrow night with your winner in the Friday game and his very first POD game for December. I will see you guys on the other side, as they say. Thanks go out to Hot Rod, Linda, and all the gang. Look for my occasional Random Truths blogs on the NBX front page. And don't be shy to invite me to your buddy leagues or drop me a line at mrtruth247@yahoo.com. And remember...it's better to be hated for who you are, than to be loved for who you're not.

Yours Truly,
Mr. Truth
So Ricky Williams' 2007 season lasted an entire six carries in something that resembled a mud wrestling match more than a pro football game. But there was that minor detail of Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons stepping on Williams' right shoulder blade. Now he can get medicinal marijuana. But Ricky did get a rough deal out there on the field. I think that maybe a modification of the rules needs to be made. Whenever a tackler uses the helmet while tackling and injury is
inflicted, it will be a 15 yard penalty and loss of one
gonad. ... Mentioning gonads, Wednesday night's Play of the Day was Missouri @ Arkansas. And I told you it was going to be a good one. Charles Thomas scored 21
points and defended two last-second 3-pointers by Missouri, helping
Arkansas hold off the Tigers 94-91 Wednesday night. And your POD winner was byucougars, who picked Arkansas 89-82. Great job! ... Thursday brings us both college and pro football on the rotation. First, a few personal words about the college game, and then we'll get to the NFL and the Play of the Day. It's Senior Night for the University of Louisville and in come the Fighting Sopranos of Rutgers. I am no Steve Kragthorpe fan, and I am sure he is aware what he has done to our proud football program. I was hoping that, by now, he would have taken the job at SMU, gone back to Tulsa, or quit coaching to join a gay circus act. And I really feel sorry for one of my favorite college quarterbacks of all time, Brian Brohm. For a 22-year-old kid, he is all class and wise well beyond his years. He gave up the early millions in the League to come back for a dream senior season that slowly morphed into a bad coaching nightmare. Here's hoping Brian ignores all the coaches and does his own play calling. The answer to this, for all you NBX bettors, will determine whether or not Louisville wins. And kudos to our departing kicker Art Carmody, who needs only one extra point on Thursday night to become the all-time career scorer for kickers and move into third place for all-time overall NCAA scoring leaders.
...
Finally, Thursday's POD...the game that you really care about, and that most television sets across the fruited plain will likely be glued to (if they can find the NFL Network on their remotes)...the Packers @ Cowboys. Choose wisely. ... Go Cardinals, Mr. Truth
Tuesday night's Play of the Day was Wisconsin @ Duke. Greg Paulus scored 18 points and No. 7 Duke dominated No. 20 Wisconsin 82-58 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Blue Devilyn should be pleased. Your POD winner is gjecat, who picked Duke 79-70. ... Wednesday's Play of the Day is Missouri @ Arkansas in college basketball. Would make a heck of a football game this year, but this match up for the NBX points is on the hardwood. ... Don't have the time or energy tonight to post some brilliant writing piece to make you laugh. Go back and read yesterday's post again, or for the first time even. It was award-winning caliber. ... Good Luck, Mr. Truth
Houston Nutt, the second-longest tenured football coach in the
Southeastern Conference, will not be back at Arkansas next season,
sources said on Monday. Nutt, who led the Razorbacks to two SEC championship game appearances,
will receive a settlement in the neighborhood of $3.5 million. Coaching at the top level of college sports is a brutal business. So who will Arkansas seek at the helm to get a rise out of quarterback Casey Dick next season? Would Jimmy Johnson give up the yacht in South Florida to return to his alma mater? Hopefully the Razorbacks can do some quick damage control on the Nutt loss, so not to leave Dick hanging.
...
The Monday Night Play of the Day was the Dolphins at the Steelers. Can we call this a game? Can we call that a football field? I don't know which looked worse: the grass on the field or the grass that Ricky Williams was smoking on the sideline. 3-0 Steelers. Are you kidding me? It was the lowest scoring NFL game in 14 years. And your POD winner is mobaddest, who picked Pittsburgh 20-6.
...
Your Tuesday Play of the Day takes us to college basketball: Wisconsin @ Duke. Pick wisely.
...
Cheers,
Mr. Truth
Man, oh man, is there a big gap in the NFC between the top two teams and the rest. Dallas' grip on the NFC East has just gotten stronger, going into the Thursday night match up with the Green Bay Packers. The Buca-queers just
beat the Redskins and the Vikings bet the Giants. And, of course, the Pats held off the Eagles and clinched the AFC East before even taking the field. And, hey...my Oakland Raiders actually beat the Kansas City Chiefs! And we’re going on the 8th year in a row where at least one of the prior year’s Super Bowl participants won’t make the post season. ... Sunday's Play of the Day, as sad as it may have been on paper, was Baltimore @ San Diego. The Chargers prevail 32-14 and sit atop the crippled AFC West. Your POD winner is...a tie. I don't know who cheated off whose paper, but both chevdrag and 12Marty12 picked San Diego 31-17. ... Monday's Play of the Day, unsurprisingly, comes in the Monday Night Football match up of the Miami Dolphins @ Pittsburgh Steelers. Sounds like another sleeper on paper, but we'll see. ... Cheers, Mr. Truth
The college football coaching carousel is well under way. Grab your ticket and your seat and hold on tightly. Bill Callahan rightfully got canned by Nebraska. And then there's Ole Miss firing head coach Ed Orgeron, only a few weeks after Ole Miss brass announced that he would be back in 2008. I guess the 17-point comeback by Mississippi State was too much. ... Saturday's POD was the much-hyped border war of Missouri versus Kansas. The Mizzou Tigers survive this game 36-28. And your POD winner is Vince Mullins, who picked this thing incredibly, Missouri 35-28. ... Sunday's Play of the Day is the Baltimore Ravens @ San Diego Chargers. ... Good luck, Mr. Truth
Kansas City Chiefs running back Priest Holmes is seemingly retiring this week after suffering another neck injury. His career appeared to be over when he sustained neck and spinal
injuries during a game at San Diego in October 2005 and spent the next
two years completely away from the game. But he called the
Chiefs shortly before they went to training camp in July and told them
he had seen himself in a dream playing football again and wanted to
stage a comeback. A message to Mr. Holmes: you are doing the right thing if you are indeed walking away now. It can avoid a potentially very bad dream because, if you are even thinking of coming back, you should talk to a couple
of former NFL players in their mid-50s, who struggle daily to even walk. Remember that the reason Barry Sanders walked away before his body broke down was because he was thinking 50 years down the road, not five. ... Friday night's Play of the Day was Boise State @ Hawaii. The unbeaten streak continues for Hawaii, who wins 39-27. Let's see if the BCS folks take notice, and exactly what (if anything) it means after another number one goes down in LSU. Your POD winner is Maximum Carnage, who picked Hawaii 38-31. ... Saturday's Play of the Day will be the game that everyone has been anticipating...Missouri @ Kansas. Pick wisely. ...
Later, Mr. Truth
Well it was a great Thanksgiving Day. I arrived at my destination and snacked on appetizers and watched football while the feast was being finished. Then I had an incredible holiday dinner and dessert. Then I watched some more football. Then we had some shrimp cocktails to top it all off. And I didn't have to do any cooking or dishes. That's a good day indeed.
...
Thursday night's POD was USC @ Arizona State. And the Trojans made it look easy against the sixth-ranked school in the country, winning 44-24. Cubasaurus was your POD winner, picking USC 37-24. The NFL games looked pretty easy too, with all the favorites winning by double digits. Is Green Bay for real? Probably, but the Packers get their real test next week against the Cowboys, who also looked invincible today. And Indianapolis made easy work out of the Atlanta Falcons (come home to Louisville, Coach Bobby Petrino). ...
Friday night's POD will be Boise State @ Hawaii. It should be a real shootout. Get your popcorn ready.
... Good Luck, Mr. Truth
Your Wednesday Night POD was Louisville @ UNLV in college basketball. It's that time of year already. And my alma mater makes me proud! Louisville came racing down the stretch like a Kentucky Derby winner. The final score was 68-48. So much for the Running Rebels' "marvelous" home winning streak. And your POD winner was 12Marty12, who picked Louisville 68-65.
...
Thursday's POD game comes to us from the world of college football. No offense to the National Football League, but there's nothing too healthy about the Thanksgiving offerings they are serving up. Your game for Thanksgiving is USC @ Arizona State. It should be a spectacular game.
...
The first Thanksgiving is usually depicted as the Pilgrims’ three-day feast in early November 1621. The Pilgrims, rejecting the institutional Church of England, left on 6 September 1620, sailing to the New World on the promise of opportunity for religious and civil liberty. They didn't get an off-season or even take a bye week. They had no idea about things such as the NFL Network or the BCS...or electricity or indoor plumbing for that matter. ...
Upon landing, the Pilgrims conducted a prayer service and quickly turned to building shelters. Our current government could have taken a lesson in the Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts. Malnutrition and illness during the ensuing New England winter killed nearly half their number. If only they could have videotaped the opposition to give themselves an advantage. Through prayer and hard work, with the assistance of their Indian friends, the Pilgrims reaped a rich harvest in the summer of 1621. The celebration incorporated feasting and games, which remain holiday traditions. And the women all stayed home and cooked for days, since there were no door buster sales at Macy's to report of.
...
This Thanksgiving, please pray for our Armed Forces standing in harm’s way around the world, and for their families—especially the families of those fallen Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who have died in defense of American liberty. I wish God’s peace and blessings upon you and yours this Thanksgiving, my NBX friends and family.

Cheers,
Mr. Truth

Welcome to the PLAY OF THE DAY
The Play Of The Day is run by NBX player and Wiseguy commish422. Every day you have a chance to name the winner of a designated game and get closest to the points total. Do that, and you can win an extra 10,000 pts. Good luck!
Play-of-the-Day Rules
1. You must pick the winner correctly to be in the running for the 10,000 points. Pick the winner wrong and you are automatically out for that game.
2. Out of those that correctly picked the winner, the one who guessed the winning teams score closest to the real point total they had, whether it be over or under that total, is the winner.
3. If two or more people tie for the winning teams score total, it goes to the losing teams total score, with the same rules in effect.
4. If two or more people are still tied after going through the winning and losing teams individual score totals, the final tiebreaker is the total points scored. Closest to this total is the winner. If there is still a tie, we have a tie for the contest and mulitple winners.
5. There is to be NO WHINING about this contest. If you don't like the way that it is being run, you don't have to enter it. This is a contest that was started to be fun and give everyone a chance to get some extra points, so let's have it be that way.
6. The judge cannot be entered in the contest, nor does he care who wins or loses. There will be NO favoritism shown by him in this contest.
7. Do NOT ask the judge how many people have the game as the over or the under or how many people have taken one team or the other. All of these questions will be ignored. This contest is not to be used to help someone ascertain how to bet on a particular game.
8. Once you make your pick and send it in, don't even think of changing it. A bet layed is a bet played.
